M5’s position in Hevelius’ atlas

M5fig1.gif

It is generally known that the globular cluster M 5 lies in Serpens

Caput. Looking into the pretty Johann Hevelius’ atlas Firnamentum

Sobiescianum sive Uranographia (1690) one finds, however, the

cluster’s position to be surrounded by a small and quite forgotten

constellation Mons Menalus (note that the chart is a mirror image

of the sky). Does anyone know more about it ?
